Octaves A Cappella Group to Sponsor Music Festival at University of Richmond

March 16, 2004

The Octaves men's a cappella singing group will headline the Spring Fever X music festival March 26-27 at the University of Richmond. The festival of unaccompanied choral singing will feature several groups and a variety of popular tunes.

Shows both nights will be at 8 p.m. in Camp Concert Hall at the university's Modlin Center for the Arts. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students.

On March 26, Richmond's Octaves will be joined by the UR Sirens, an all-female group; Richmond's Off the Cuff male and female company; and the Davidson Generals, a male group from Davidson College. On Saturday, the Octaves will perform along with Richmond's Choeur de Roi, a group of men and women. Additional performers may be added to the programs.

The Octaves' repertoire features music from artists including Blessed Union of Souls, Alabama, Maroon 5, Garth Brooks and the Beatles. It includes pop, spiritual and classical music. The group will debut six new songs at the spring festival.

Formed in 1990, the Octaves are a student-run group that has released six albums. They perform frequently in the Richmond area and have appeared on "Good Morning America" as well as at colleges and events up and down the East Coast.

A cappella is an increasingly popular musical form. The Richmond festival has seen larger crowds each year. This year's performers include some of the nation's top collegiate groups.
