University of Richmond Students to Sponsor 5K Run for Shelter to Benefit Habitat for Humanity

March 23, 2004

Students at the University of Richmond are sponsoring Run for Shelter, a 5K race, April 3 to benefit Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity.

The race begins on campus at 9 a.m. and is open to the public. It will start and finish at First Market Soccer Stadium. The registration fee, which includes a T-shirt, is $17. Runners may register on race day beginning at 7:30 a.m. or online at www.urhabitat.com through 6 p.m. April 1.

The course winds over rolling hills, through woods and around Westhampton Lake on what The Princeton Review regularly lists as one of America's most beautiful college campuses.

In 13 years, Richmond has raised more money for Habitat than any other university its size in the nation. In 2003, Richmond students coordinated "Merriewood Miracle," which fully funded a Habitat house and provided more than 1,000 volunteers to "blitz-build" it in one week.
