Ben Folds to Perform at University of Richmond

March 11, 2003

Ben Folds, "post-modern piano man" and worldwide headliner who writes and sings of ordinary heroes and victims, will appear at the University of Richmond's Robins Center for an 8 p.m. performance April 5.

Folds came to prominence in 1995 as leader of Chapel Hill, N.C.-based Ben Folds Five, which recorded "Whatever and Ever Amen" for Epic records in 1996. The album's slice of life vignettes included a top-of-the-charts single, helping it make platinum status. The group disbanded in 2001, and Folds has been recording on his own since then. His latest CD is "Ben Folds Live." Folds will perform solo on piano. Guest artists are Tegan and Sara, a duo from Canada.

Limited general admission seating is available for $15 plus fees. Tickets may be purchased at Ticketmaster outlets, the Modlin Center for the Arts ticket office at (804) 289-8980, or online at http://oncampus.richmond.edu/modlinarts. Tickets will be available the evening of the show at the Robins Center's outside ticket offices. Doors open at 7:15 p.m.
