University of Richmond Students to Sponsor 5K Run for Shelter to Benefit Habitat for Humanity

March 17, 2003

Students at the University of Richmond are sponsoring Run for Shelter, a 5K race, April 5 to benefit the Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity.

The race begins on the university campus at 9 a.m. and is open to the public. It will start and finish at First Market Soccer Stadium. The registration fee, which includes a T-shirt, is $14 through March 22 or $17 after that date. Runners may register on race day beginning at 7:30 a.m. or online at www.urhabitat.com through 9 p.m. April 3.

The course winds over rolling hills, through woods and around Westhampton Lake on what The Princeton Review regularly lists as one of America's most beautiful college campuses.

Run for Shelter kicks off Merriewood Miracle, a student-initiated, weeklong project to construct a house in the Merriewood neighborhood of Chesterfield County. More than 1,100 students have signed up to "blitz build" a Habitat for Humanity house, renovate Bensley and Bellswood elementary schools and build a playground during the week of April 7-13.
