June 18, 2009

Economics scholars, graduate students and undergraduates from the United States, Scotland, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria and Chile will present research and published works examining the current economic crisis at the Summer Institute for the Preservation of the History of Economics at the University of Richmond, June 19-22.

Hosted by the university's Jepson School of Leadership Studies, the institute is an annual forum on the history of economic ideas.

Nobel laureate James Buchanan will speak on the current crisis, while Leland Yeager, editor of a series of lectures at the University of Virginia published in 1962 called "In Search of a Monetary Constitution," will lecture on the history of monetary crises.

On the final day, a series of papers on Adam Smith will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the publication of Smith's "Theory of Moral Sentiments."

Other institute sponsors include the Earhart Foundation, History of Economics Society and Jack Miller Center.
