Two University of Richmond Graduates Named to Wall Street Journal's "Best of the Street" List

June 9, 2006

Two University of Richmond alumni are included in The Wall Street Journal’s 2006 “Best on the Street” list, which highlights the best professional stock pickers during the past year in 44 industries. Both are 1982 graduates of the Robins School of Business.

Larry Marsh, who also earned an MBA at Richmond in 1994, was named the top analyst in the “Retailers: Food and Drug” category. A senior analyst at Lehman Brothers in New York, Marsh has been named to the “Best on the Street” list five times. Douglas Lane, senior research analyst at Avondale Partners, ranked third among analysts in the “Household & Personal Products” category—his fourth time on the list.

According to the Journal, the survey “is strictly quantitative and based solely on stock-picking ability—which recommendations would have helped investors make money in 2005.”

Marsh joined Salomon Brothers in New York in 1996, where he served as director in equity research. He spent the previous 13 years in Richmond, rising to managing director of Wheat First Butcher Singer. He credits the Robins School's challenging and competitive environment for his success.

Before joining Avondale in October 2002, Lane was a hedge fund manager in New York. He also worked nine years for Merrill Lynch, where he served as senior analyst covering the U.S. Beverage group. He started his investment career in 1989 at PNC Bank in Philadelphia as a consumer analyst.

BusinessWeek magazine recently ranked The Robins School among the top 25 undergraduate business programs in the country. Five members of the Class of 2006 have landed starting Wall Street jobs paying over six figures.
