Grant to University of Richmond to Fund Alcohol Education Program
July 1, 2003
The University of Richmond has received a grant from the Michael Andretti Foundation to fund an alcohol education program for students.
The $5,000 grant will allow the university to implement "Alcohol 101 Plus," a program of The Century Council, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking. Major funding for the program came from Jim Beam Brands Co. and other leading distillers.
Alcohol 101 Plus is an interactive CD-ROM that helps college students make safe and responsible decisions about alcohol. "It will provide us with another approach for educating our students about making healthy decisions when they are faced with responsible choices," said Max Vest, director of student activities. "We will make the program available to campus organizations and residence halls for educational programs."
Andretti, the recently retired Indy-car driver, presented the check to Vest and other university officials June 28 at Richmond International Raceway before the running of the SunTrust Indy Challenge.
