University of Richmond works with Partnership for Public Service to promote federal government careers to students
January 15, 2009
University of Richmond has been designated a "Call to Serve" campus through a joint effort between the Partnership for Public Service and the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Through the partnership, the university will encourage students to consider careers with the federal government.
The university will kick-off the partnership with the "Pathways to Public Service" program, which will place five University of Richmond students in internships with federal agencies in Washington, D.C. during the summer of 2009. The internship program is one of only a few of its kind in the nation.
"Our students are really interested in careers that allow them to give back to their communities," said Leslie Stevenson, director of the university's Career Development Center. "These internships will introduce our students to the diverse career paths in the federal government while allowing them to explore ways to contribute to the greater good."
The university also has appointed a campus coordinator in its career center to oversee education and outreach to students through campus events and informational campaigns. Participating federal agencies will provide guidance on how students can find information about and pursue jobs in federal service.
The Call to Serve network consists of more than 620 schools and more than 75 agencies. University of Richmond joins 22 other Virginia colleges and universities that participate in the network.
