Judge Roger L. Gregory to speak at University of Richmond's Martin Luther King Day program

January 14, 2009

More than 40 years after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the day before Barack Obama is inaugurated as the country's first African-American president, 4th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Roger L. Gregory will discuss King's legacy in Cannon Memorial Chapel at the University of Richmond on Jan. 19 at 2 p.m.

Gregory was the first African-American appointed to the 4th Circuit and his presentation is part of the university's annual Martin Luther King Day program. Other highlights of the event include song and dance performances by students and a reception following the event.

A Petersburg native, Gregory earned a bachelor of arts degree summa cum laude from Virginia State University and a law degree from the University of Michigan. After working at law firms in Michigan and Virginia, he established the law firm Wilder and Gregory with former Virginia Gov. L. Douglas Wilder. When Wilder became governor, Gregory managed the law firm until his judicial appointment.
