The Modlin Center presents Shanghai Quartet: "Love and Fireworks"

Originally formed in Shanghai more than 20 years ago, the Shanghai Quartet is a versatile ensemble, known for passionate musicality, astounding technique and multicultural innovations. Celebrate Valentine's Day as the Shanghai Quartet returns to the Modlin Center's Camp Concert Hall on Wednesday, February 14 at 7:30 pm.
The Shanghai Quartet -- Yi-Wen Jiang and Weigang Li on violin, Honggang Li on viola, and Nicholas Tzavaras on cello -- has earned the reputation as one of the world's most outstanding string quartets. Originally formed in Shanghai, this versatile ensemble is known for their passionate musicality, astounding technique, and multicultural innovations. The Washington Post calls them, "an ensemble of virtuosity and style."
The Shanghai Quartet has performed on the world's most prominent concert stages, and regularly tours the great music centers of Europe, North and South America and Asia. Recent seasons have included tours of Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. Recording for several labels, the Quartet has built an extensive discography that now totals 20 recordings. Recently, the Quartet released two discs: Mendelssohn Octet (Camerata), and Zhou Long's "Poems from Tang" Quartet and Orchestra (BIS).
Their Richmond concert will feature Edvard Grieg's String Quartet in G minor, Op. 27, in its entirety, in addition to a collection of their favorite performance encores.
