John Bolton, U.S. Ambassador to United Nations, to Speak at University of Richmond Jan. 27

John Bolton, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, will speak on “The U.S. and the U.N.--The Year Ahead,” Jan. 27 at the University of Richmond.
Bolton’s visit is as guest of the university’s Jepson School of Leadership Studies. His talk, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at Jepson Alumni Center (not the leadership studies building), is open to the public, but seating will be limited. President George W. Bush nominated Bolton, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, as U.N. ambassador last year, and he was installed Aug. 1. Bolton had been under secretary of state for arms control and international security since May 2001. Before joining the Bush administration, he was senior vice president of the American Enterprise Institute, a nonprofit public policy center.

Sandel (Jan. 25), author and Harvard University professor of political philosophy, on “American Public Debate: What Role for Morality and Religion”; Bob Dole and George McGovern (Feb. 6), former U.S. senators and presidential nominees, on “A View from the Hill and Beyond”; and Jean Bethke Elshtain (Feb. 23), author and University of Chicago political philosopher, on “Public Deliberation in a Diverse Society.”
