Pulitzer-Winning Reporter Receives William Green Award at University of Richmond

January 21, 2005

New York Times Supreme Court correspondent Linda Greenhouse has been awarded the William Green Award for Professional Excellence at the University of Richmond School of Law.

Greenhouse received the award, which is the law school’s highest, at a luncheon on campus. Former recipients include U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and the late Justice Lewis F. Powell Jr.

Greenhouse has been Supreme Court correspondent for the Times since 1978. She received the Pulitzer Prize in Journalism for her coverage of the court in 1998. Among her many awards and honors, she is an honorary member of the American Law Institute (one of only two non-lawyers so recognized). She also is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and is the recipient of the American Political Science Association’s Carey-McWilliams Award for “a major journalistic contribution to our understanding of politics.”

While on campus, she also spoke with faculty and students of the law school and other departments.

William Green was one of the original members of law faculty.
