University of Richmond Presents Filmmaker Megan Holley for Screening, Talk

January 20, 2003

Richmond filmmaker Megan Holley will screen her first feature film, "The Snowflake Crusade," at the University of Richmond on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Jepson Hall, room 118.

The film, which was shot in and around Richmond, explores the search for individual identity in an age of cloning and genetic manipulation. After the screening, Holley will answer questions and talk about her experiences as a young, woman filmmaker. The event is free and open to the public.

Holley has previously directed several award-winning short films that have been shown at film festivals across the country. The 2002 James River Festival of the Moving Image in Richmond included "The Snowflake Crusade."

Online movie site thefilmchair.com said "writer-director Megan Holley, in her first attempt at feature film making, is able to create the definitive socio-political cloning film." The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts recently awarded Holley a fellowship for her work.

The screening and talk is the third event in the 2002-03 speaker series, Women in the Arts, sponsored by the university's Women Involved in Living and Learning (WILL) and Women's Studies programs. For more information, call (804) 289-8578.
