Baptist Center at University of Richmond has Published Books to Benefit Disaster Relief and Liberian People

January 21, 2003

The Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies at the University of Richmond has published two books that are providing thousands of dollars in disaster relief for victims of Sept. 11 terrorism and for the people of Liberia.

"Seeds of Hope," published in November, already has raised $3,000 to support the Liberia Cattle Project, a ministry of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board and the Richmond Baptist Association. The ministry places livestock suitable for the climate in Liberia. The 300-page book, designed to be sold to Virginia Baptists, documents the historical and contemporary relationships between Virginia Baptists and the Liberian people.

"For the Living of These Days: Responses to Terrorism," a collection of sermons delivered by Virginia Baptist ministers the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001, has raised $24,383 to purchase portable food service units for use at future emergency response sites.

The center was founded in 2000 following an agreement between the Baptist General Association of Virginia, the University of Richmond and the Virginia Baptist Historical Society.
