University of Richmond law professor receives award for contributions to Virginia legal system

Ronald Bacigal, a professor at the University of Richmond School of Law, has been named the 2008 recipient of the Harry L. Carrico Professionalism Award.
Bacigal received the award during the 38th annual Criminal Law Seminar at the Marriott/Kingsmill resort in Williamsburg Feb. 15.
The award, created in honor of former chief justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia Harry L. Carrico, recognizes individuals who have made contributions to improve the criminal justice system in Virginia.
A former Fulbright Scholar in international law to The Hague, Netherlands, Bacigal has been a professor at the law school for nearly 40 years. The university has twice recognized him as a distinguished educator and he has received the Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
Bacigal has written 19 books and more than 50 articles, and is an expert on criminal law and procedure.
