The Modlin Center for the Arts and the University of Richmond present Michael Kaiser
February 22, 2007
The Modlin Center for the Arts and the University of Richmond welcome the inaugural Quigg Visiting Lecturer in Arts Management, Michael M. Kaiser, President of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 7:30 pm in the Alice Jepson Theatre. Kaiser will present a free public lecture entitled "Marketing the Arts: The Secret Weapon."
Kaiser has been president of the Kennedy Center since 2001, before which he served as executive director of the Royal Opera House, the executive director of American Ballet Theatre and the executive director of the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater. Prior to entering arts management, Kaiser was a management consultant in the corporate sector.
Kaiser has also created the Kennedy Center Arts Management Institute to provide training for young arts administrators, created a Capacity Building Program which offers mentoring services to the leaders of African American, Latino, Asian American and Native American arts groups across the United States and is a cultural ambassador for the State Department's CultureConnect program, where he advises performing arts organizations around the world.
Kaiser brings his vast experience and influential expertise to his lectures. "Marketing the Arts: The Secret Weapon" will focus on how he succeeded in helping the organizations that he has worked for achieve artistic and financial success by marketing their organizations to both ticket buyers and donors.
This lecture and campus residency is supported by the H. Gerald Quigg Endowment, established in 1997 to honor Jerry Quigg, vice president of development and University relations, on the occasion of his retirement from the University of Richmond.
