University of Richmond to Co-Sponsor Leadership Ethics Conference With Two California Institutes

February 26, 2004

What role does ethics play in leadership? A conference in California March 6, co-sponsored by the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond, will bring together leading academics and business leaders to examine that question.

The 14th annual Kravis-de Roulet Conference also is sponsored by the Kravis Leadership Institute at Claremont McKenna College and the Institute for Advance Studies in Leadership at the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University. It will be held at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, Calif.

Speakers will discuss ethical challenges faced by for-profit and nonprofit organizations, examining such areas as ethical business leadership, organizational ethics, leadership and conflict, ethics and technology, and leadership and social justice.

"It is surprising that there is still very little written on the subject of ethics and leadership," said Joanne B. Ciulla, professor of leadership studies at Richmond. "We hope the book that comes out of this conference will make an important contribution to the field."

Ciulla, along with Terry Price, assistant professor of leadership studies at Richmond, and Susan Murphy, associate professor of psychology at Claremont McKenna, will co-edit a book containing the conference's papers.
