University of Richmond Student and Waite Hill Resident Wins Poster Contest
February 19, 2004
Katie Klement of Waite Hill, Ohio, a senior at the University of Richmond, was co-winner with another Richmond student of the Applied Geography Conference's undergraduate student poster contest.
Klement, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Gift and Ardie Klement, is an environmental science major. She held an internship last summer at the James River Association in Richmond, Va., where she helped create a spatial database using geographic information to assess and manage the river's watershed more easily. She used data gathered during the internship to create the poster.
The poster was titled "GIS and Riparian Buffer Zone Conservation Along the James River: Assessing the Effectiveness of Slope, Land Cover and Soil Classifications." She attended the conference in Colorado Springs, Colo., last November to present the poster.
Klement graduated from Laurel High School in 2000.
