Soul of the City Forum at University of Richmond Continues with "Turning to One Another" Author

February 3, 2003

Margaret Wheatley, author of a book on how people can start listening to one another again, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in the Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond.

Wheatley will be the second speaker in a series at Richmond called "The Soul of the City: Spirituality, Sustainability and the Arts." Wheatley and others suggest ways cities can change to make people's lives more beautiful and rewarding.

Architect Renato Severino spoke last month on "In Quest of the Ideal City." The series will conclude at 7:30 p.m. on March 19 in the Modlin Center with a panel discussion on the city and the arts.

Wheatley is an internationally prominent speaker on leadership and community and corporate organization. In her book "Turning to One Another: Simple Conversations to Restore Hope of the Future," she suggests, "We can change the world if we start listening to one another again. Simple, honest, human conversation. Not mediation, negotiation, problem-solving, debate or public meetings. Simple, truthful conversation where we each have a chance to speak, we each feel heard, and we each listen well."

Wheatley is president of the Berkana Institute, whose mission, she says, is to "support the pioneering efforts of life-affirming leaders around the globe."

Her speech, based on her book, is free and open to the public.
