Shanghai Quartet to be Featured Live and Taped on NPR's "Performance Today" February 21-22

February 19, 2002

The Shanghai Quartet, acknowledged among the world's leading string quartets and musicians-in-residence at the University of Richmond, will be featured in live and taped concerts on NPR's "Performance Today" Feb. 21-22.

The Shanghai joins guitarist Jason Vieaux closing the second hour of the Feb. 21 program with what host Fred Child calls "Vivaldi for five." On Feb. 22, Vieaux and the quartet draft Child as castenet player in a live performance of Boccherini's Guitar Quintet No. 4.

"Performance Today" is broadcast locally weekdays from 9-11 a.m. on NPR member station WCVE (88.9 FM). Most NPR stations around the country carry the program, but at various times. For more information and a list of stations and times, visit www.npr.org/programs/pt/index.html.
