Former Minnesota Viking Alan Page Will Discuss His Life as a State Supreme Court Justice at University of Richmond

February 1, 2002

NFL Hall of Famer Alan Page will speak on living a worthy life after football on Feb. 18 at the University of Richmond.

A football star turned a state supreme court justice, Page sees his football stardom as the distant past.

"If I could choose a way to be remembered," he says, "it wouldn't be my association with football. Football is the past, a good past, but I'd want to be remembered for my work with children-my children and others."

A member of the Minnesota Vikings' vaunted "Purple People Eaters" defensive line of the '70s, Page studied law during his NFL career. He became Minnesota's first African-American supreme court justice.

His speech is part of the Jepson Leadership Forum series on "Sports, Society and Leadership," sponsored by the Jepson School of Leadership Studies. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Modlin Center for the Arts.

Tickets are free but required. For reservations, call 289-8980.

In the series' last event, University of Richmond basketball coach John Beilein and UR Hall of Fame coach Dick Tarrant will talk on "Coaching, Motivating and Leading Teams" on April 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jepson Alumni Center.
