DIPLOMACY EXPERT TO ADDRESS US-CHINA RELATIONS

Arthur Waldron, an expert on world diplomatic history, East Asia and China, will speak on "China's Rise and America's Response" at the University of Richmond on March 2 at 2:30 p.m. in Jepson Hall, Room 118.

Waldron is Lauder Professor of International Relations at the University of Pennsylvania and director of Asian studies at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, a Washington-based think tank. He was Professor of Strategy and Policy at U.S. Naval War College from 1991-97 and has held research positions at Harvard University's Olin Institute for Strategic Studies and Fairbank Center for East Asian Research since 1994.

Waldron earned a Ph.D. in history from Harvard. Besides publishing extensively in scholarly journals, he has written and edited four books, including "From War to Nationalism: China's Turning Point, 1924-1925," and "The Great Wall of China: From History to Myth."

The event is co-sponsored by the university's Asian Studies Program and the Office of International Education. It is free and open to the public.
