Swisher holds a B.A. from Amherst College, an M.A. from Stanford University and a J.D. from University of California's Hastings College of Law. He has taught at University of Richmond since 1974, moving through the ranks from assistant professor to become a professor of law in 1982. He teaches courses in insurance and family law and torts. He is co-author of Principles of Insurance Law; Family Law: Cases, Materials and Problems; Virginia Family Law: Theory and Practice; and Understanding Family Law. He has been an expert witness in numerous insurance cases, served as chair of the AALS Family and Juvenile Law Section and Insurance Section and was editor of Family Law News, a quarterly publication of the Virginia State Bar and AALS Family Law Section Newsletter, a publication of the Family Law Section, American Association of Law Schools.
