Monks received his bachelor's degree from Union College and holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Boston College. He has written articles on loan burdens and educational outcomes, gender and racial earnings differentials in academic labor markets, and trends in voluntary and involuntary job turnover. Monks teaches quantitative analysis and conducts research on the economics of higher education and labor economics.
