Harrison holds a Ph.D. in geography from the University of Florida. He has published in several major scientific journals on a number of geographic topics, including climatology, environmental change, satellite remote sensing, geographic information systems, and the modeling of wildfires in the humid subtropics, particularly Florida and the southeastern United States. He has received funding from NASA and NSF to study various aspects of landscape characterization as it relates to climate change, particularly ENSO.
