Gruner holds an A.B. from Brown University and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from UCLA. She is the former associate editor of Victorians Institute Journal and is an editor of LiteraryMama.com, an online magazine devoted to writing about motherhood. She has served as coordinator of the University of Richmond's English master's program and WGSS program.
