Fetea holds a Ph.D. in theoretical particle physics from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and master's degrees in theoretical physics, and optics, spectroscopy, plasma, and lasers from the University of Timisoara, Romania.
She has done research in theoretical nuclear physics in South Africa, Romania, Germany, Sweden and the United States. Dr. Fetea has helped organize international conferences and summer workshops and has made presentations at numerous conferences in the United States, Czech Republic, Germany and Spain.
