A graduate of the University of Virginia, Dr. Coughlan earned an MBA and a Ph.D. in management at the University of Arizona. He teaches courses on business ethics and negotiations to undergraduates and MBA students. He also oversees executive education in the business school at Richmond. A member of the Society for Business Ethics, he won the university’s Distinguished Educator Award in 2004 and the business school's Outstanding Scholar Award in 2002.
His views on business appear regularly in national media outlets including BusinessWeek, National Public Radio, the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times. A former sales manager in the resort industry, he teaches, consults and serves as a keynote speaker for audiences in both the corporate and non-profit sectors.
