Brown teaches courses in foundations of education and children’s literature and a first-year Core Course titled “Exploring Human Experience,” which examines issues of human experience through close analysis of relevant texts drawn from a number of cultures, disciplines and historical periods.
She has delivered visiting lectureships at the College of St. Paul and St. Mary in Cheltenham, England, and Auckland College of Education, Auckland, New Zealand. Most recently, she delivered a paper at the Harris Manchester College in the University of Oxford, England. She has appeared before the National Council of Educational Research and Improvement in Washington, D.C., concerning the need for emphasis on early literacy.
Brown holds a Ph.D. from Texas Woman’s University; prior to that she was an elementary teacher in Virginia and Tennessee.
