Bonfiglio holds a Ph.D. from Indiana University and has been appointed to the William Judson Gaines Chair in Comparative Literature and Linguistics. He has also been named a distinguished educator at Richmond. His research and teaching interests include comparative literature (English, German, and French), Austrian literature, psychoanalysis and literature, gender studies, and American dialects (Sociolinguistics). He is author of books on German literature and American dialectology and is currently writing a book on the history of the native speaker.
