A graduate of University College Cork, Ireland, Beausang holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the State University of New York, Stony Brook. He previously taught at Yale University and was Chadwick Fellow at the University of Liverpool. In 2003 he was a visiting scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and in 2002 he was visiting reader at the University of Surrey, Guildford, U.K.
