Barnett holds a B.S. in computer science from Furman and MSCS and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Texas. A member of the Association for Computing Machinery, Barnett teaches courses in algorithms, problem solving using computers, data structures, systems and architecture, operating systems, software engineering and networks. He has been a consultant to various companies and co-wrote Basic Java Programming: A Laboratory Approach and Data Structures with Java: A Laboratory Approach.
