University of Richmond collects 196 cans and boxes of nonperishable items for Central Virginia Food Bank

December 12, 2008

University of Richmond students donated 196 cans and packages of nonperishable food items during Boatwright Memorial Library's "Food for Fines" campaign. The donations will be delivered to Central Virginia Food Bank Dec. 12.

For each can or box of nonperishable food donated by a student, $1 in overdue library fees was forgiven. Food was collected at Boatwright Library, Parsons Music Library, and the Media Resource, Technology Learning and Curriculum Materials centers.

"We've done this in the past, but not every semester," said Lucretia McCulley, director of outreach services for Boatwright Memorial Library and organizer of the drive. "Because of the difficult economy, the library staff thought it would be a good time to make a donation to the food bank."
