University of Richmond's Walter Green is President Elect of Medical Disaster Organization
December 8, 2003
Walter G. Green III, program director of the Emergency Services Management degree program in the University of Richmond's School of Continuing Studies, has been voted president elect of the American College of Contingency Planners (ACCP).
Green, who was elected at the organization's annual conference in San Antonio last month, will serve as president elect in 2004 and as president in 2005-06.
ACCP is the national professional association for military and civilian medical disaster planners and managers and is one of the major membership organizations of the American Academy of Medical Administrators (AAMA). The academy's 2,500 members are people who manage health care systems, hospitals and health care delivery systems.
Green also received the professional designation of fellow of ACCP and is already a fellow of AAMA. The two designations are considered professionally the equivalent of medical specialty board certification.
When Green, who also is associate professor of emergency management at Richmond, began the ESM program at Richmond six years ago, it was one of only four in the nation. Now more than 100 colleges and universities offer emergency management courses. Green is a former director of emergency operations for the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services. He also is a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel and author of several books and articles on emergency medical services.
