University of Richmond to Hold Second-Annual Alumni Career Weekend
December 19, 2002
The University of Richmond will hold an alumni career weekend called "The Real World" Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
About 35 alumni representing diverse career fields will come to campus to lecture and interact informally with students. A student, staff and alumni committee invited alumni who have graduated within the last 10 years to represent such fields as marketing, media, human relations, health care, consulting, education, sales, government and law, arts and entertainment, and business and finance.
The Real World is the second-annual two-day career conference at Richmond. Last year's was called "Disney, Doctors, and More."
The alumni will make classroom presentations on Jan. 31 and meet informally with students that afternoon. Kerrigan O'Connell will deliver the keynote address on Feb. 1 on the changing nature of the career marketplace. O'Connell, who graduated in 1992, is a career management consultant with Drake Beam Morin, the world's largest career management and transition services firm. Her address will be followed by breakout sessions on specific career fields.
The event is open and free to all University of Richmond undergraduates. Its purpose, according to organizers, is to "enable students to develop lasting and productive relationships with Richmond alumni."
The Real World is sponsored by the Westhampton and Richmond College alumni associations, the student governments, Career Development Center, Richmond Quest, Class of 2003 and the Speaker's Board.
