Two University of Richmond seniors awarded Fulbright grants to teach English abroad
April 3, 2009
Two seniors at the University of Richmond have received Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship grants.
Kyle Bell of Wyomissing, Pa., and Aaron Daugherty of Oregon City, Ore., will teach approximately nine months in Spain and Indonesia, respectively, at locations to be determined.
Bell departs in September and also hopes to work with local museums to develop their English language programming. Daugherty leaves at the end of August to teach high school students.
Fulbright ETA grants cover the cost of travel, living expenses, medical insurance and enrichment activities overseas.
The Institute of International Education (IIE) manages the ETA portion of the Fulbright Program, the largest U.S. international exchange program, for the U.S. Department of State. Fulbrights provide international study, research and teaching opportunities worldwide to scholars and professionals.
Named for the late U.S. Sen. J. William Fulbright, the program sends Americans abroad and brings representatives of other countries to the United States to foster leadership, learning and empathy between cultures.
