Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness receives Outstanding Sports Facility Award
April 17, 2008
The National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) has named the University of Richmond one of five colleges to receive its 2008 Outstanding Sports Facility award.
Each year, NIRSA honors colleges with sports facilities that are examples of exceptional architecture, design and overall impact to the campus. The Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness is a $13.5 million facility with 90,000 square feet of space that opened in March 2007. The design focused on bright colors, open space and "green" initiatives, such as natural lighting and recycled materials. Since its completion, use of fitness facilities has soared to more than 1,400 users a day.
It is the university's first time winning the award, for which 22 colleges competed.
