Hip-hop student dance group to perform on "Virginia This Morning" and at University of Richmond's Camp Concert Hall

April 18, 2008

University of Richmond's D-Squad, a student hip-hop dance and step choreography group, will perform a sample of "D-Squad Mixtape, Volume 4" on the April 23 broadcast of WTVR's "Virginia This Morning." The group will perform the program in its entirety April 25, 7:30 p.m. at Camp Concert Hall.

More than 60 dancers, including the university's Asian Beat dance group and dancers from the Richmond Outreach Center, will perform 19 routines.

Senior Steph Li, co-president of D-Squad and one of its founding members, says the group began with 10 women in 2004.

"We wanted to start an organization to recognize the importance of hip-hop and step choreography," she said. "And the opportunity to perform in a venue like Camp Concert Hall is something we've wanted from the beginning."

The event is open to the public, and tickets are available at the Modlin Center box office, (804) 289-8980.
