University of Richmond student shares research on Capitol Hill
April 27, 2007
University of Richmond student Sarah Remmert is one of nearly 80 undergraduate students in the U.S. selected by The Council on Undergraduate Research to discuss her work with members of Congress on Capitol Hill this week.
The Council on Undergraduate Research's "Posters on the Hill" event gives students the opportunity to share their personal stories, discoveries and research with members of Congress and professional scientists. Students also individually meet with one or more of their representatives or senators.
Remmert, a Memphis native double majoring in chemistry and biochemistry-molecular biology and double minoring in mathematics and physics, has been working with university chemistry professor Carol Parish for more than a year to research unique compounds that may improve HIV treatment. She is the past recipient of a Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and has been awarded a Clarendon Scholarship for pursuit of a D.Phil degree (the equivalent of an American Ph.D.) in chemistry at University of Oxford in England.
