University of Richmond Chapel Guild to Celebrate 25th Anniversary

April 5, 2006

The University of Richmond’s Chapel Guild will celebrate its 25th anniversary at a meeting and luncheon on April 10.

Former university president E. Bruce Heilman and former university chaplain David D. Burhans will be the guest speakers.

The guild was founded in 1982 by Martha Tiller as a way to support the ministry of the Office of the Chaplaincy and the physical beauty of Cannon Memorial Chapel. The group is composed of alumni and friends of the university. The guild's efforts range from refurbishing chapel rooms to providing for special needs of the chapel and the Chaplaincy.

Over the years they have sponsored a biennial Chapel Guild Christmas House Tour and partnered with the music department to present productions of Handel’s Messiah.

They also have renovated the chapel’s Bride’s and Groom’s rooms, helped put in new lighting and sound systems, purchased a piano for the Wilton Center and commissioned portraits of Mrs. Jessie Ball duPont and Burhans.

They also have contributed both financially and in volunteer hours during Community Service days.

The group’s business meeting at 10 a.m. will be followed by a luncheon in the Quigg Room of the Jepson Alumni Center at noon.
