Feminism and Sikhism Topic of Discussion at University of Richmond Lecture

Nikky-Guninder K. Singh will give a free talk on "Feminism and Sikhism" April 19, 7:30 p.m., in the Brown-Alley Room of Weinstein Hall at the University of Richmond.
Singh will explain how conceptions of womanhood and religion intersect and conflict and how Sikhism addresses feminism. She is Crawford Family Professor of Religion and chair of the religious studies department at Colby College.
Singh's books include "The Feminine Principle in the Sikh Vision of the Transcendent" and "The Name of My Beloved: Verses of the Sikh Gurus." Her program on Eastern religions and sexuality frequently has been broadcast on the History Channel.
The talk is sponsored by A More Perfect Union, a project working to prevent bias against the Muslim, South Asian and Arab communities in Richmond, and the university's Women Involved in Living and Learning program.
