Afghanistan Expert to Examine Rise and Fall of the Taliban in April 21 Lecture

Zia H. Hashmi, retired professor of political science and founder and former director of the Center for International Studies at Georgia Southern University, will lecture on "The Rise and Fall of the Taliban Regime in Afghanistan" April 21, 7 p.m., at the University of Richmond's Jepson Hall.

Hashmi, who also served as executive director of the Association of Third World Studies Inc. from 1993-96, is author of the book "Iran, Pakistan and Turkey: Regional Cooperation and Economic Development."

The talk is sponsored by A More Perfect Union, a project working to prevent bias against the Muslim, South Asian and Arab communities in Richmond, and the Ibn Rushd (IB-un roosht) Cultural Center, a non-profit, non-partisan organization seeking to build a bridge between people of Arab and Aajam descent and the greater Richmond community.
