DIRECTOR OF SPORTS MEDICINE

Supervisor: Associate Athletic Director - Business

Sport Assignments: Football

Administrative Responsibilities: Oversee all athletic training room operations including: purchasing, insurance, summer camps. Primarily responsible for the recruitment of student athletic trainers, scheduling sports medicine staff, develop and implement emergency action plans for all varsity athletic sites. Serve as Liaison to: team physician, NCAA drug testing, Chippenham Sports Medicine on-campus physical therapy services, rescue squad personnel, University Dining Services, and Student Health Center.

Job Specifications: Must have masters level degree in athletic training related field; NATA Certification in good standing; Ability to oversee travel with football; College/University Division I practical experience.

Job Responsibilities: Coordinate and deliver athletic training services to varsity student-athletes, under the direction of the team physician, including: prevention, recognition, evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries; acute care and emergency response to athletic injuries; rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries; and health care administration for the student-athletes.

Continue professional development and responsibility including: interpersonal communication skills, knowledge and understanding of ethical and legal parameters set forth by the NATA, governing state laws, policies of the NCAA and the University of Richmond, enhance professional growth of the athletic training profession.

Maintain comprehensive medical records for individual student-athletes, daily injury reports for football, and annual injury report summarizing football injuries, treatments, and follow up care.

Coordinate and participate in in-service training sessions.

Implement OSHA and University of Richmond guidelines for Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan and conduct annual training on these procedures.

Supervise certified athletic trainers on staff and student assistants.

Develop and implement a network of health care professional for referral services.

Perform other duties to assist athletic director and associate athletic directors in tasks deemed essential to the operation of the sports medicine department.
