KEY TASKS AND PROCEDURES

This Key Tasks and Procedures checklist is designed to help monitor the various tasks involved in administering the continuing eligibility certification process for returning student-athletes. This checklist designates a person or persons responsible for each task and procedure as well as someone as an oversight person.

TASK AND/OR PROCEDURE RESPONSIBLE OVERSIGHT
Develop written procedures for certification of returning S-As (including walk-on S-As).

Create job descriptions for and delineate responsibilities/duties of persons involved in the certification process. Identify the certifying officials for eligibility of returning S-As and the person(s) determining academic and general eligibility.

Establish communication channels among participants in the certification process.

Designate one liaison in the Registrar's Office and one in the Athletics Department through which all communication should flow. Registrar Official for Athletics and Compliance Coordinator Registrar & AD President
Educate all participants in the certification process as to NCAA, conference and institutional rules. CC SADA
Designate a central coordinator to facilitate the flow of information between the Registrar's Office and the Athletics Department. This is the Compliance Coordinator. CC & Registrar AD
Establish a procedure to facilitate the answering of interpretive questions from the Registrar's Office and other staff members. This procedure is direct contact with the Compliance Coordinator. AD President
Obtain "inquiry only" access to the S-A's computer records in the Registrar's Office. This access is granted to the Director of Academic Advising for Student-Athletes and the Compliance Coordinator. CC Registrar
Identify all S-As (returning and transfer residents, walk-ons) subject to continuing eligibility certification (one year in residence or one season of competition at the certifying institution). Provide participation/eligibility rosters for each sport to the Registrar's Office. CC SADA
Identify the academic advisement process for S-As regarding requirements for satisfactory progress toward a degree. ADAA CC
Ensure that all S-As are enrolled in a full-time program of studies at the beginning of each term. CC SADA
Ensure that S-As enroll in academic course applicable to a baccalaureate degree program. ADAA & CC Registrar
Establish a procedure to "flag" S-As who drop below full-time enrollment during term. Implement procedures whereby this information is communicated early. Procedure in place. CC Registrar
Identify the procedure for S-As to make their degree declarations by their fifth semester of collegiate attendance. CC Registrar
Prior to competition, verify that courses completed are applicable to particular baccalaureate degree programs; determine satisfactory progress, academic standing, and grade-point average; determine academic eligibility status. CC or SADA FAR & Registrar
Review the S-A's biographical and other information. Determine general eligibility status. Coaches & CC SADA
Certify continuing eligibility (see No. 15). CC & SADA Registrar & FAR
Monitor the academic progress of S-As during term (grade checks, tutors, study halls, etc.). ADAA SADA
Review academic progress and notify student-athletes if on warning or probation; academically suspend when appropriate. Deans SADA
At conclusion of term, monitor S-A's academic standing. ADAA Deans& SADA
Establish procedures for the approval of summer-school course work to be taken at other institutions. Procedures in place. Academic Dept. Registrar
Add the names of continuing S-As to the appropriate conference roster. CC SADA
Review NCAA regulations with S-As and administer the S-A Statement. CC SADA
