The information presented below is designed to give Ticket Office personnel an overview of NCAA legislation that applies to their area of operations. It is a summary of applicable legislation. The NCAA Manual should be consulted for more information.
Complimentary Tickets
Student-Athletes Bylaw 16.2.1
Student-athletes may receive up to four complimentary admissions to home and away contests in their sport. The tickets may be provided to individuals designated by the student-athlete only through a pass list. Hard tickets may not be issued. The person using the complimentary ticket must present an ID in order to gain admission. He or she may be given a ticket stub or some other form of ID designating a seat. There is no restriction on who may be designated to receive the complimentary admissions. Student-athletes or those receiving the complimentary admission may not receive payment for the ticket or exchange it for an item of value.
Student-athletes may receive one complimentary admission for University home athletic contests in all sports. These admissions must be made through a pass list.
Prospects on Official Visits Bylaw 13.7.5.2
Prospective student-athletes on official (expense-paid) visits to the University may receive complimentary tickets to a campus athletic event. Complimentary tickets may only be provided to the prospect and his or her parents/guardians or spouse and must be issued through a pass list. The University may reserve tickets in the same vicinity as the complimentary tickets for the use of immediate family members accompanying the prospect on his or her official visit (i.e., a brother or sister). Such tickets must be purchased at face value. All seats must be in the general seating section only. Seating in the press box, special seating area, or on the bench is strictly prohibited.
The University may not provide prospects with complimentary tickets to post-season conference tournaments, NCAA Championships, or any other post-season contests. The prospect may purchase these tickets in the same manner as any other member of the general public.
Prospects on Unofficial Visits Bylaw 13.8.2
Prospective student-athletes on unofficial visits may receive three complimentary tickets to a campus athletic event. The tickets must be issued through a pass list. No hard tickets may be issued. No tickets may be reserved for purchase by other accompanying the prospect.
The University may not provide prospects with complimentary tickets to post-season conference tournaments, NCAA Championships, or any other post-season contests. The prospect may purchase tickets in the same manner as any other member of the general public.
Scouts Bylaw 11.6
Coaches in the sports of lacrosse and women's volleyball may receive press box or complimentary tickets in order to scout an opponent or have their expenses paid by their institution.
Coaches in the sports of basketball and football may not scout opponents at their own or the institution's expense.
Coaches in sports other than lacrosse, women's volleyball, football, and basketball may scout opponents only at their own expense. The University may not provide complimentary tickets or press box seating to these coaches.
Coaches in all sports may scout future opponents at a tournament in which both teams are competing. The coach's institution may pay the expenses of such scouting.
High School, Prep School, and Two-Year College Coaches Bylaw 13.9
High school, preparatory school, and two-year college coaches may receive a maximum of two complimentary tickets to a campus athletic event. Such tickets must be issued through a pass list. No hard tickets may be issued.
Meals
Prospects on Official Visits Bylaw 13.7.5.7
Prospective student-athletes on official (expense-paid) and their accompanying parent(s)/guardian(s), may receive up to three meals per day in facilities comparable to normal student life. Others accompanying the prospect, including siblings, friends or other relatives, may not receive complimentary meals.
Prospects on Unofficial Visits Bylaw 13.8.2
Prospective student-athletes on unofficial visits may not be provided with any expenses including meals.
High School, Prep School, and Two-Year College Coaches Bylaw 13.9
High school, preparatory school, and two-year college coaches may not be provided with any expenses including food and refreshments.
Lodging
Prospects on Official Visits Bylaw 13.7.4
Prospective student-athletes on official (expense-paid) visits may stay in hotels within 30 miles of the University campus provided the rooms are at a scale comparable to normal student life (i.e., no suites). The University may provide lodging only for the prospect and his or her parents, guardians or spouse. Additional people accompanying the prospect on the visit (i.e., siblings, friends) may be housed in the same room but the University may not pay extra charges resulting from their presence.
Prospects on Bylaw 13.7.4 Bylaw 13.8.2
Prospective student-athletes on unofficial visits may not be provided with any expenses including lodging or meals. Such prospects may stay in enrolled student-athletes' rooms but must pay the going room rate.
High School, Prep School, and Two-Year College Coaches Bylaw 13.9
High school, preparatory school, and two-year college coaches may not be provided with any expenses including lodging.
Promotional Activities
Student-athletes and Prospects Bylaws 12.5.2.3.3 and 16.16.12.1.5
Receipt by student-athletes or prospective student-athletes of prizes for winning a promotional activity could jeopardize the individual's eligibility. A student-athlete or prospect may receive a prize for participating in a promotional activity held in conjunction with an athletics contest (i.e., half-court basketball shot) only if the prize is won through a random drawing that includes all members of the general public or student body.
