ARTICLE TWENTY-TWO
CHEERLEADERS/MASCOT
Appendix A
Contract of Commitment
It is my understanding that:
- Cheerleading is a major commitment of my time.
- The University of Richmond practices all recognized safety
procedures at practice sessions including use of mats, proper
stunt progression, certified safety instructors and use of spotters.
When performing cheerleader stunts there is bending, flipping
version of the body and there is a risk of serious injury and
even death. No pyramid will be attempted that exceeds the two
and one half high limit. All pyramids and stunts above extension
levels will not be attempted without spotters. No new or unlearned
stunt will be attempted without a coach present.
- Any injury sustained as a result of cheerleading should be
examined first by the University of Richmond Sports Medicine
staff and team physician. Any claims resulting from a cheerleader
injury should be filed with your insurance company. The University
of Richmond maintains a secondary policy for all of its student-athletes
that will pay the amount not covered by your policy. You may
not return to practice after an injury until you have been cleared
by the Sports Medicine Department.
- If selected, I agree to perform at all mandatory functions
except those legitimately excused and assist the Department of
Athletics with promotions when necessary.
- No one on the cheerleader squad has the authority to incur
a debt or enter into a contract in the name of the University
of Richmond or the University of Richmond Cheerleaders.
I have read the cheerleader policy, tryout requirements, and
team rules and had them explained to my satisfaction.
