Intercollegiate Athletic Policies Procedures Manual

TABLE OF CONTENTS

PREFACE

The purpose of this INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETIC POLICIES AND PROCEDURES MANUAL (hereafter referred to as Manual) is to provide guidelines for Departmental and University activities. There is no intent for the Departmental policies or procedures to be different from those of the University; but if there is a conflict, University policy shall prevail.

The material and information presented here are a condensation of a number of policies, procedures, and references pertaining to the University of Richmond and intercollegiate athletics. The materials and information in this Manual were coordinated with the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Administrative Staff, the Institutional NCAA Faculty Representative, the Faculty Committee on Athletics, the Athletic Council, the Provost, the President, and the Board of Trustees for the NCAA Institutional Self-Study to Enhance the Integrity of Intercollegiate Athletics in April and May of 1991. These materials and information continue to be coordinated and updated to comply with changes in legislation in the NCAA MANUAL and degree requirements in the University's undergraduate catalogs. The Manual is designed to be an everyday functional guide to aid in the efficient and effective operations of the Department of Athletics. The Manual is in loose leaf form with each page numbered and dated to assist in revisions and additions. The Manual's design also allows certain articles (parts) to be extracted and stand alone as a policy guide in a specific area (examples: Intercollegiate Athletic Ticket Priorities Policy and Student-Athletes).

Users of this Manual are encouraged to make note of any information in the Manual which conflicts with existing University, NCAA and/or conference policies, procedures or legislation. Noted conflicts and/or recommended changes or comments which may improve the Manual should be submitted to the person listed as responsible for the article (see Article Four - Duties and Responsibilities) or to the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Robins Center, University of Richmond, Virginia 23173. The information submitted should be keyed to the specific page, paragraph, and line of text. Request reasons be provided for each comment to insure understanding and complete evaluation.

This Manual will use the following date and page numbering system:

a) Each article's spelled out numbers will be converted to an Arabic number to be used as the first part of the page number. As an example - the first page of the first article would be 1-1. The second page of the first article would 1-2, the third page would be 1-3, etc. Extra pages inserted, at a later date, between 1-2 and 1-3 would be numbered 1-2.1, 1-2.2 etc.

b) The page date uses the number of the month and the last two numbers of the year. A page printed in February 1995 would be dated with [2-95] near the left margin at the bottom of the page.

c) The appendixes will follow the article. The first appendix will start with APPENDIX A and will continue with other alpha letters as needed. The first appendix page number for article one would be 1-A-1, the second page 1-A-2, etc.

The words "he", "him", and "his", when used in the Manual represent both the masculine and feminine genders unless specifically stated otherwise. Note that throughout the Manual the Department of Athletics and the Athletic Department are both used when referring to the University of Richmond Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

DISTRIBUTION: Copies of the Manual are property of the University of Richmond Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and are distributed within the Department and University to offices and duty positions and not as the personal copies of the persons in these offices and positions.
