Mission

University of Richmond's Undergraduate Catalog states that in order to achieve its educational objectives, the institution is committed to the "development of civic responsibility" in students, as well as to provide them opportunities for "social commitment and public service."

Our Program is based on the fundamental understanding that curriculum-based community service provides students with experiential knowledge, helps them develop a sense of social responsibility, and thereby offers them opportunities to practice civic engagement.

Therefore, the Service Learning Program exists to encourage and support University of Richmond faculty to achieve these specific pedagogical goals by assigning community service to the students in their courses.

The Service Learning Program acts as a resource for faculty, providing incentive mini-grants, one-on-one service learning consultations, and information about local groups and community agencies in need of assistance.
