-
How do I find all courses that have a
specific attribute?
If you can't register...
- What do I do if
BannerWeb shows that my login PIN
is invalid?
For current students who have accessed
BannerWeb before:
Make sure you aren't confusing your Student PIN with your
Term PIN. You will be asked for your Student ID (8 digit
University User I.D.), BannerWeb login PIN and Term
PIN (found on subsequent screen) in that order. If
you enter your Term PIN first by mistake, you may be locked
out of access to BannerWeb.
Please
contact
the Help Desk (x6400) to reset your pin.
The Registrar's Office does not reset pins.
For students who have not activated their
account:
If this is the first time you are accessing
BannerWeb, go to
https://bannerweb.richmond.edu/pin.html for information
on your initial Login. You will be prompted to change your
PIN by entering a new unique six-character PIN twice. You
should also create and answer the security questions for
future use in re-setting a forgotten PIN. Be sure to write
this number down and save it in a secure place for future
reference. Do not give your PIN to anyone else. University
Policy prohibits access to the system by anyone other than
the authorized user.
-
The
system prevents me from registering because I did not
meet with my advisor. Can the Registrar's Office change
my status to show that I have been advised?
No. Only your advisor can change your registration
status to show that you have been advised. Contact:
• Your advisor
• The Academic Advising Resource Center (AARC) located
in Richmond hall. (x6574)
Currently studying abroad? Your status is automatically
set to show that you have been advised.
- I
have a hold. What do I do?
Please visit this
link for more information on holds.
If you can register but are having problems
- BannerWeb shows that I have a link error. What does that
mean?
It means the course you wanted has a second part
which must be added simultaneously with the first part.
Usually these "additional sections" are labs or drills
which accompany a lecture. For Modern Language drills,
you need to match the lecture section number (e.g. 02)
with the appropriate drill section (e.g. D2A or D2B).
The number in the middle must match the number of the
section. For most other courses, like the sciences, you
may register for whichever lab section best fits your
schedule (provided that lab section is open).
- BannerWeb shows that I have a prerequisite or co
requisite error. How do I find out what is required?
Check for prerequisites in
the current catalog (printed or online at
undergraduatecatalog.richmond.edu), or in BannerWeb
in the Registration section (LUCA) by clicking on the
course name link (in blue). You can also check with the
department offering the course.
- The class I want is closed. What do I do?
Try for another section of
the course that fits your schedule. If this fails, you
can either choose an alternate course (always have a
list of alternates ready when you register) or you can
consult with the chair of the department offering the
course for suggestions to see if he or she will
authorize an over-enrollment for the desired section.
Overrides are not automatic.
Some things to keep in mind:
•
If other sections of the same course are still open, the
chair may be understandably reluctant to over-enroll the
closed section.
•
Some courses cannot be over-enrolled due to seating or
facility capacity (a good example are computer
classrooms, which have a limited number of computers).
•
If it is possible for you to take the course in a later
term, you may need to do that.
- BannerWeb shows that I need Departmental Approval. What
do I do?
You will need to go to the
chair of the department offering the class and request
Departmental Approval. Usually these classes are
independent studies, internships, or classes offered
only once.
- I spoke with the instructor, and he/she said I could
take the class. BannerWeb won't let me register. What
do I do?
You will
need Registration Special Approval, which only
the chair of the department may authorize. Please
contact the chair and request his or her permission to
register for the course.
- I want to register for two classes that overlap meeting
times by just a few minutes. Can I?
You will
need to get an override from both departments (with
permission from both instructors) for which there is a
time overlap. Remember: You will be responsible for all
the material in both classes, even for the overlap
period when you cannot be in two places.
- How can I register for more than 5.5 units?
Have your
residential dean sign the appropriate section on the
Registration Special Approval Form available from
the Registrar’s Office and bring the form to the
Registrar's Office before you attempt to register
for more than 5.5 units. Be aware that additional
tuition may be charged. Over 5.5 units is a per-unit
fee. Check with Student Accounts (bursar@richmond.edu)
for more information.
- How can I register for less than 3.5 units?
You
should talk to your residential dean to let him/her know
you have dropped below full time. No signature is
required, however. Carrying less than 3.5 units can
affect your campus housing, your financial aid, your
health insurance coverage, and more. Be sure to
consult with the dean as soon as you know you plan a
part-time schedule.
- BannerWeb shows that the course I want isn't available
via the web. What do I do?
Not all courses are offered
every semester. You can check with the department
offering the course for more information about when it
will be offered.
- Can I audit a class? How do I do that?
With the
approval of your academic advisor, dean, and the
instructor of the course, you may register for a course
on an audit basis. The regular rate of tuition is
charged, and the audit course is counted as a part of
your semester load. You can register for the course as
usual, and then a permission form must be obtained from
and returned with appropriate signatures to the Office
of the University Registrar no later than the end of the
tenth day of classes. Once the form is submitted to the
University Registrar, the decision may not be reversed.
An audited course cannot subsequently be taken for
credit unless approved by the appropriate dean.
- Can I take a class Pass/Fail?
If you are a Business student, you may
not opt to take a class on a Pass/Fail
basis, even if the course is offered by another school.
If you are a Leadership Studies student, you may
not take any Leadership Studies
class on a Pass/Fail basis.
If you are an Arts & Sciences/Jepson (Leadership
Studies) student who has completed at least 18 units of
academic work, you may opt for one course per semester
to be graded on a Pass/Fail basis. The course may not
be used to satisfy any degree requirement other than
total units of credit and, if taken in the major or
minor, may not be used to satisfy requirements for
either.
To opt for Pass/Fail grading, a permission form must be
obtained from and returned with appropriate signatures
to the Office of the University Registrar no later than
the end of the tenth day of classes. Once the form is
submitted to the University Registrar, the decision may
not be reversed.
- The class I want is open but restricted for majors only,
and I am a major. Why can't I register for the class?
Major
declarations are entered through the first two weeks of
each semester. If you submit a declaration after this
time, you declaration form will be held and entered at
the end of the term. Therefore, you would not be
able to register for a course with a major restriction
w/out a departmental override. Major restrictions are
unilaterally removed prior to sophomore registration
(College and Class restrictions are never removed).
- I have a minor in a class I want to take. Why can't
I get into this class that has a major restriction?
A class
with a major restriction will not allow anyone but
students with the major to register for the class.
Department chairs use this restriction to ensure that
majors have the first opportunity to register, even if
they are juniors. Major restrictions are lifted prior to
sophomore registration (College and Class restrictions
are never lifted). If you have a minor, you will need
to receive an override from the department in order to
register for the class during priority registration.
- What is a class restriction?
A class restriction prevents students with certain
class standings from registering for certain courses.
Senior seminars are frequently restricted so that only
Fourth-Year students may register. Similarly, other
courses are restricted to First-Year and Second-Year
students. Remember that class standing is calculated
strictly by the number of earned units, not by the year
you entered the University. Consult the Undergraduate
Catalog for more information.
- I'm a Business minor but I can't register for any
300-level Business School courses. Why not?
Access to 300-level business classes is restricted
to those students in the business school (college
restriction). Business minors register for Business
school courses during the Add/Drop period at the
beginning of each term.
- When are major restrictions lifted?
Major restrictions are lifted prior to sophomore
priority registration. Class and College restrictions
are never removed.
- I got an override for a closed class. So why can’t I
register for it on BannerWeb?
Once you have the departmental override for a closed
course, you can go on BannerWeb to register as follows:
(Be aware that the course will still appear closed “C”
on LUCA.)
• Log on to BannerWeb
• Click Student Services
• Click Registration
• Click Add/Drop Classes
• Key in the CRN in the CRN block and submit changes
- I want to re-register on BannerWeb for a course I
dropped (by mistake or changed my mind). BannerWeb won’t
let me re-register!
If it is after the first day of classes, BannerWeb
does not see the student out of the class as long as it
is out there, even if the student has dropped the
course. BannerWeb views this scenario as adding a
duplicate session. If there is still room in the class,
please contact the Office of the University Registrar
for assistance.
- How do I find all courses that have a specific
attribute?
To search
for all courses with a particular attribute, 1) click on
the first subject in the list, hold down the SHIFT key,
and scroll down the list and click on the subject at the
bottom to highlight all subjects; 2) then, select an
attribute from the list. Click ‘Class Search’ to see all
courses which have that attribute.
