Associated Faculty
Some visiting scholars teach special topics courses or enjoy short-term residencies at the School. Others associated with the Jepson faculty are adjuncts who regularly teach the classes most terms. Among those affiliated with the School are:
Mark McGarvie earned his J.D. from Marquette University and his Ph.D. from the University of Indiana. He practiced corporate and labor law for a decade in the Chicago area, before returning to the historical fold. A specialist in early American history, he has published One Nation Under Law: America's Early National Struggles to Separate Church and State, co-edited a book about the history of American philanthropy, and is working on an intellectual biography of Revolutionary era legal thinker, St. George Tucker. He teaches in the history department as well as in the School of Leadership Studies and also coordinates law programs.
Charles M. Metzgar has deep practical as well as theoretical knowledge of corporate life, consulting, corporate governance and human resources management and leadership. Retired in 2000 from William M. Mercer--the world's largest human resources consulting firm--Professor Metzgar consults on special projects to the Mercer chairman and the United States Leadership Group. In the spring semester, Metzgar teaches Leadership in Organizations.
Thomas Shields holds a Ph.D. in public policy from Virginia Commonwealth University. He pursues interests in urban politics and policy, African American political involvement in southern suburbs, and minorities in the American political system, state and local government. Dr. Shields teaches Foundations of Leadership Studies.
